Review
| What I like | What I dislike |
|---|---|
| Broad shade range with flexible, sheer pigments | Pills easily |
| Sheer coverage tinted moisturizer | Non-buildable coverage |
| Natural, radiant finish |
The Clarins – Skin Illusion Tinted Moisturizer has natural coverage pigments and a natural glow finish on the skin. The product feels like a thick cream that needs to be worked into the skin (I prefer to apply this with my fingers instead of a brush). Once applied, it feels lightweight and provides a natural, radiant glow.
Shade 06 works well with my medium deep undertone. When first applied, it appears to be too bright but blends into my medium deep skin tone well due to the sheer coverage. The slight peach undertone helps to correct and brighten under my eyes (for a no makeup day).
When applied in small amounts, this product absorbs quickly into the skin, does not transfer, and provides a radiant glow to the skin. This is my preferred application approach; therefore, I don’t rely on the sunscreen in this product and always apply a separate sunscreen. To me, this is more of a skincare-focused product with an element of natural complexion pigments.
When applied similar to a skin tint (with the aim to build coverage in certain areas), this product pills easily. It is not possible to build up the coverage with this product, it does not absorb well when in excess and transfers easily. I have tried this application approach multiple times, including lighter skincare routines, to try and reduce the pilling with no luck.
Comparisons
This product reminds me of the Chantecaille – Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer (Shade: Chestnut) and the Clarins – Milky Boost Cream (Shade: 07) in a few ways:
- Cream formula
- Natural, skin-like radiant finish
The Chantecaille – Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer (Shade: Chestnut; Price: €72.00; €2.06 per mL) has a similar texture and finish on the skin, but has more coverage than the Clarins – Skin Illusion Tinted Moisturizer (sheer to medium buildable coverage). Both products include skincare and sunscreen ingredients; however, the two deepest shades of the Chantecaille – Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer (Shades: Chestnut & Mahogany) do not include sunscreen. These two products also mix well together to give a sheer to medium coverage finish with a radiant glow; the peach undertone in the Clarins – Skin Illusion Tinted Moisturizer (Shade: 06) offsets the golden undertone in the Chantecaille – Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer (Shade: Chestnut) for a perfect shade match.
The Clarins – Milky Boost Cream (Shade: 07; Price: €39.00; €0.87 per mL) has a mousse consistency with sheer to medium buildable coverage. Both products contain skincare ingredients; however, the Clarins – Milky Boost Cream does not contain sunscreen. I love the formula and finish of the Clarins – Milky Boost Cream; however, the shades were limited in this range and the closest shade to my skin tone was too yellow on my skin (I had to use this with bronzer to counter the yellow undertones).
Conclusions
I like this product on “no makeup” days, mainly for natural glow finish. I love that you get the benefits of a skincare product, and that it also includes a natural, radiant finish (to slightly enhance your natural features). I don’t rely on the sunscreen in this product because I use small amounts due to it pilling easily on the skin. I think it’s a nice product for the Spring and Summer months when I don’t have time for makeup.
