I first learned about the pinpoint concealing technique by watching Lisa Eldridge’s makeup videos on YouTube and she has now released her own pinpoint concealer pencils. I am a fan of this technique so I bought the new Lisa Eldridge – Seamless Skin Pinpoint Concealer in three shades (09, 10, & 11).

Review
| What I like | What I dislike |
|---|---|
| Full coverage spot concealer | Expensive (price per gram) |
| Precise application with pencil design | Difficult to open (no grip on pencil) |
| Quick concealing (less than 5 spots) | Lettering (including shade number) fades quickly |
| Blurring and long lasting |
The product applies as a thick, cream-gel formula with intense pigment and precise application. It glides easily on the skin and can be blended with either fingers or a brush. Once blended, the coverage fades so it’s best to go back in again with the concealer pencil to boost coverage on a specific spot.
This is a great product when needing to cover a few blemishes on the face; its quick if you have less than five blemishes, but can be time-consuming the more you need to cover and spend time on each one.
I initially tried this concealer pencil to colour correct and conceal under my eyes, but quickly learnt this product isn’t meant for this type of application. Because it’s aimed at spot concealing, it’s not emollient and doesn’t smooth over a large area.
The finished application looks very natural on the skin, it has a sight blurring effect, and it sets itself after a few minutes. Once set, it’s long wearing and lasts throughout the day (unless I touch my face too much).
The packaging can be improved:
- The cap is meant to keep the product airtight and prevent it from drying, but it may help if the pencil has some grip because it’s difficult to open on most days.
- The lettering on all three pencils have faded and since I bought similar shades, it’s hard to tell them apart. I have to open and swatch each one every time to check the shade; this is not ideal as it’s an expensive product.
Alternatives
I don’t have any products in my makeup collection that is similar to this concealer pencil, but I have seen Jones Road – The Face Pencil (Price: €30.00; €10.35 per gram) is an all over face concealer, also with precise application using a chubbier pencil design. Since Jones Road now ships to Europe, I plan on picking these pencils up in the future and would like to compare them to the Lisa Eldridge – Seamless Skin Pinpoint Concealer.
In the past, I have used liquid concealers to achieve Lisa’s pinpoint concealing technique. The following products are my favourite and still work nicely to achieve the same effect:
- Estée Lauder – Double Wear Concealer (old formula, Shade: 4N; Price: €33.00; €4.72 per mL)
- This concealer has full coverage and a thick consistency which is great for concealing all over the face, or using a small brush to spot conceal. For full coverage, I leave the concealer to air dry for a few minutes before blending in. As of writing this post, Estée Lauder has released a new version of this concealer which I am excited to try in the near future.
- Guerlain – Terracotta Concealer (Shade: 4N; Price: €42.00; €3.65 per mL)
- This is not as full coverage and is lighter in texture than the Estée Lauder – Double Wear Concealer, but I still get good coverage using it in the same way described above.
- Danessa Myricks – Groundwork Defining Neutrals Palette (Price: €83.50)
- The velvet pomades in this palette work well to conceal larger areas of the face, or to spot conceal using a precise brush. This palette can be used all over the face, shades can be mixed to create the perfect shade, and the pomade can be built to full coverage. My tip is to use a brush that has slightly textured bristles so that it picks up the velvet pomade easily; a soft brush doesn’t have good grip on this formula.
Conclusions
I like the convenience and easy application of this product, and I think it’s great for covering up a few blemishes. I am not sure how long the concealer pencil will last (you only get 0.4g), but I would not recommend this product if there are more than five blemishes that need to be concealed at a given time. That said, I have only been using this concealer pencil on (at most) three blemishes at a time (and I have stopped using it under my eyes). I don’t think this product is a must, but it’s nice to have for the ease and convenience.
